Those That Have Failed
to Succeed
Chris Y., 12th Grade Greatness is held most dear, Not by the child reared in the light, But by the child who ne’er hath seen, For before fathoming the ripest of things, One must hath known hunger between-- Dream not of being handed success, For the flower that blooms with allure Does not perceive the pain of a broken seed; It does not know the journey that is endured-- Greatness is held most dear, By those that are the weakest of all men, By those that are shackled by their shortcomings, By those that in their journey sweat, cry, and bleed, By those that have failed to succeed. |
He
Said He Could, So He Did
Lauren S., 12th Grade On the curb of the cool concrete sidewalk, There sat a boy with big dreams. Everyone had little to no money on his block, Along with his family as shocking as it seems. Having a house full of seven children, One can only imagine how difficult life could be. With no money for a college education, He still had a plan he was ecstatic for people to see. He worked and worked as the days got hotter, And unlocked the door to his new life with a key. Now who is this man you might wonder? He is my father, who everyday never fails to inspire me. |
